Our children from Years 1-3 were finally able to go on their Field Trips which were delayed owing to challenging times this year. Ramzan, unprecedented thunderstorms, fuel shortage created by the US-Israel attacks/war with Iran and the government’s decision to give an extended Spring Break in March. We didn’t give up and managed to take our pupils to the TDF MagnifiScience Centre. The visit provided an exciting opportunity for the children to learn through observation, hands-on exploration and play.
Year 3 went on April 28, 29 and 30. Years 1 and 2 on May 05, 06 and 07.
Year 1: The day of exploration began with the vibrant “Kids World Karachi” on the ground floor. The visit was a delightful blend of learning and play, specially designed to help our pupils connect with their city through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
The journey began at Karachi Mohalla, a lively setup reflecting the essence of the city. From a tea stall and supermarket to a mosque, farmer’s area, and playground – the environment brought Karachi to life. Pupils enthusiastically took on the roles of buyers and sellers, engaging in simple bargaining and using basic mathematical skills in simulated real-life contexts. This immersive experience helped them understand everyday transactions while building confidence and communication skills. In the creative zones, they explored sand play, designed patterns using symmetry blocks, and created beautiful geometric designs through projectors. These activities enhanced their creativity while introducing them to foundational mathematical concepts in an enjoyable way.
The hospital area allowed pupils to connect with their prior knowledge about the human body. They discussed oral hygiene, identified important body parts, and even explored different body organ sounds. The ambulance experience added excitement, giving them a glimpse into emergency response in a safe and engaging manner.
Music and sound brought another layer of joy to the trip. Pupils experimented with rhythm by tapping on various objects and thoroughly enjoyed playing on the large interactive human piano, discovering how different sounds are produced.
In the construction zone, pupils stepped into the role of young engineers. They worked together to build walls using bricks, demonstrating teamwork, cooperation, and problem-solving skills. This hands-on activity encouraged collaboration and a sense of achievement.
The mangroves forest exhibit captured their curiosity, where they observed live fish and turtles in a pond while walking over a bridge. They learned about the importance of mangrove forests and how they protect and support the ecosystem of our city.
At the Sawari Adda, pupils enjoyed imaginative rides on trucks and auto-rickshaws while admiring the colourful truck art. They also explored simple machines through activities like transferring goods and using wind-powered sailing cars. The Karachi Port area was one of the most exciting parts of the trip, where pupils became little sailors by exploring ships, sailing boats, trying fishing activities, and operating water pulleys and small barrages.
Overall, the field trip was a joyful and enriching experience that allowed our Year 1 pupils to learn through hands-on exploration, creativity and understand Science through hands-on experiences.
Year 2: During their visit, the pupils visited the first floor, where they engaged with a variety of hands-on exhibits designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and scientific thinking.
One of the highlights of the trip was the fascinating Light Room, where pupils explored the effects of light, colours, reflections, and shadows through interactive displays. The illusion-exhibits captured the pupils’ attention as they discovered how visuals can sometimes trick the human mind and eyes. The children eagerly shared their observations, asked thoughtful questions, and used their critical thinking skills to understand the science behind what they experienced.
The pupils also explored the Heart and Human Body area, where they learned about the functioning of the human heart through engaging and interactive exhibits. They listened attentively, discussed their questions and thoughts, and showed great enthusiasm while exploring the displays. In the Sounds and Vibrations section, pupils experimented with different sounds, beats, and vibrations while learning how sound travels and changes. These activities encouraged pupils to think critically, make predictions, and observe how different actions created different effects.
In the Music Area, our pupils confidently participated in creating beats and sounds together, showing enthusiasm, coordination, and creativity throughout the activity. During the session, the Science Centre facilitator appreciated our children for their impressive sense of rhythm, musical understanding and energetic participation.
The Gravitation exhibits sparked excitement and curiosity as pupils explored how gravity affects movement and balance. The Mirror Room and Mirror Maze brought laughter and joy as pupils navigated through reflections, distorted images, and endless mirror pathways. These experiences also encouraged observation, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking while making learning both meaningful and enjoyable.
The trip was both educational and memorable, giving pupils the opportunity to develop their curiosity, confidence, teamwork, and enthusiasm for learning beyond the classroom. Through exploration and discovery, the visit helped bring scientific concepts to life and inspired pupils to think critically about the world around them in a fun and engaging way.
Year 3: This Year 3 write-up has been taken from one of pupils classwork of the reflections pupils wrote after their Field Trip and reproduced here with minimal editing.
We went to the heaven of science, on April 29, 2026. All the groups visited on different days. We reached there at 9:00 a.m. The vans took us to the wonderful world of science, and I felt very excited.
As soon as we arrived, we all imagined ourselves to be scientists. We visited the third floor; there were many exhibits displayed over there. In the earthquake room, everyone trembled with fear and 2 to 3 pupils were knocked over by the force of the earth, and they made us feel the Kashmir earthquake.
We also explored the solar system section. There it felt like someone had put a real solar system in front of us in a small form. The black holes, stars, moons, and the Earth amazed us all.
There was History of Karachi, and we all were surprised to know that Karachi’s name was Kolachi. In maze, it felt difficult to solve it because one person was telling the direction and one was solving the maze. It was also fun. Last but not least, aquatic zone. In it, it felt like we were fish. We also discovered many animals and the layers of oceans. It was all enjoyment!
It was not just an educational learning as well as fun trip for us. I recommend everyone to go there because it was learning with fun. If I would go back, I would explore anti-gravity room. I felt amazed at the end of the trip. It was a wonderful experience!
