Years 1 – 5: We have co-teachers in each section of each year group. This means that there are two teachers in the classroom at any given time to address the children’s learning needs. The teacher-child ratio in these year groups is roughly 1:20. Co-teachers jointly determine the content to be taught and the teaching strategy to be used. Then they take turns in planning lessons. They share teaching materials and resources and assess children’s progress in consultation with each other. The co-teachers clarify children’s queries, support them during written work or an activity and lead one of the groups when the lesson plan calls for working in two groups.
Year 6: To ease the transition from the Primary Section to the Secondary Section, we have co-teachers in Year 6 as well. They take equal responsibility for all students and we have ensured that between the co-teachers they have subject knowledge and expertise in all academic subjects.
