Uncovering the Treasures of Pakistan: A Visit to the National Museum

On February 27, 2025, our Year 6 students embarked on an educational trip to the National Museum of Pakistan. This visit provided them with an opportunity to explore the country’s rich history and culture, offering a glimpse into Pakistan’s diverse heritage and the importance of preserving it.

The museum’s exhibits guided students through different historical periods, from the ancient Indus Valley Civilization to the Mughal Empire, and from Buddhist and Hindu cultures to the modern era. Highlights included rare coins, jewellery, textiles, sculptures, and an impressive collection of manuscripts, paintings, and calligraphy.

A particularly enriching part of the visit was the extensive collection of artifacts from the Indus Valley Civilization. This was especially valuable for our students, who are currently working on a project related to this ancient civilization. They got the opportunity to observe a variety of items, including pottery, jewellery, and sculptures, that deepened their understanding of the civilization’s daily life and cultural practices.

The experience provided a great connection between the theoretical knowledge the students had gained and the tangible evidence on display. By examining the artifacts, they were able to gain new insights into the Indus Valley’s social, economic, and cultural aspects.

Another standout feature was the Ethnology Gallery, which showcases the diverse cultures of Pakistan. Life-sized statues of people from various ethnic groups, dressed in traditional attire fascinated students. They were delighted to see replicas of tribal homes and villages, which offered a window into the lives of different communities. The gallery’s collection of cultural artifacts, such as musical instruments, utensils, and handicrafts, further illustrated the rich cultural diversity of Pakistan.

Overall, it was a memorable experience that engaged and educated our students, helping them appreciate the deep historical and cultural heritage of Pakistan.
