CPD Session on Nutrition & its Value for Teachers of Years 1–10

A series of CPD sessions on nutrition, titled Understanding Nutrition to Make Right Choices (Years 1–3), Understanding and Teaching Nutrition (Years 4–5), and Eat Well, Live Well (Years 6–10), were conducted over two Saturdays, November 30, 2024 and January 18, 2025, to equip teachers with essential knowledge about nutrition and its impact on our health and well-being.

Each session covered fundamental concepts of nutrition, its role in our daily life, and the classification of nutrients essential for maintaining health. Teachers were also introduced to key topics such as malnutrition (including undernutrition and overnutrition), its causes, and its broader impact on individuals. Additional discussions included sugar and added sugar, calculating BMI, food package label literacy, the effects of sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats, as well as eating disorders.

The sessions emphasised the vital role teachers play in guiding students towards healthier lifestyle choices. These interactive and informative discussions generated a lot of interest and enthusiasm and discussion, enhanced teachers’ understanding of nutrition and also empowered them to effectively address the needs of children. The sessions reinforced the importance of teachers in fostering healthier generations.
