Our Year 5 students combined creativity with safety awareness this October as they created posters for The Burns Centre Children’s Poster Contest 2026, themed “Prevention of Burn Injuries”.
Before beginning their artwork, students discussed fire prevention, the importance of keeping building exits clear, and appropriate responses to fires and burn injuries. They shared experiences of accidental burns and reflected on fire incidents in the city, recognising the importance of safety awareness at every age.
These discussions inspired students to develop their ideas through brainstorming and poster design. They learnt to work on larger sheets of paper, adjusting the size of their illustrations and lettering to create balanced layouts and communicate safety messages clearly.
The activity resulted in colourful, eye-catching posters and a deeper understanding of our shared responsibility to prevent fires and burn injuries. Through their artwork, students highlighted how greater awareness and careful actions can help protect themselves, their families and the wider community.
