Sapan (Southasia Peace Action Network), in collaboration with its partner organisation, Doyens of Peace, initiated the Youth Pledge for Peace to mark International Peace Day on 21 September 2026. The initiative aimed to encourage young people to understand the challenges facing South Asia, recognise shared regional concerns and promote peace, dialogue and cooperation across borders. Inspired by this initiative, we organised a special assembly on Monday, 21 September 2026, around the theme “Youth Across Borders: Building a Peaceful and Prosperous South Asia”. This assembly was led by our Student Council.
The Student Council highlighted regional challenges such as inequality, discrimination, climate change, water shortages and misinformation. They shared their thoughts on how young people can contribute to peace by respecting different cultures and perspectives, thinking critically about information shared online, and choosing dialogue over division.
The role of sports, music, art, literature and cultural exchanges in bringing young people together and building understanding across borders was also discussed.
The assembly concluded by emphasising that peace begins with individual choices and collective responsibility. Through this assembly, we shared Sapan’s message with the school community and encouraged students to reflect on their role in building a more peaceful, respectful and cooperative South Asia.
