The MPR was abuzz with teachers coming eagerly to the ‘Nifty Thrifty’ Charity Sale on their last day before the winter break – December 24, 2024.
The idea behind this initiative is to foster the value of letting some of our possessions go and of sharing them with others. This is an important aspect of community spirit. It is about gratitude for what we have and about experiencing joy from seeing others give some of our beloved belongings a new home.
It is also about decluttering our lives with possessions we no longer really want or need and passing it on to someone else for whom “Everything Old is New Again.” This process reminds us how to live with what we really need, avoid excess and give others the opportunity to purchase commodities in good condition at affordable prices.
The Nifty Thrifty Team does a lot of behind the scenes work for this fun sale to happen. Teachers bring in their items through the term and place them anonymously in a designated space. The Team then goes through everything to check for the condition it’s in, logging and pricing and maintaining inventories and finally transforming the MPR into the engaging, exciting Nifty Thrifty charity stalls.
All our staff came and enjoyed the atmosphere and goods on sale. They went around, laughed and chatted and purchased what they fancied and looked really happy. There was a wonderful light-hearted vibe and sense of community which made all the hard work worthwhile.
A big shout out “Thank You” to our staff for the donations of their belongings and of course time/energy/money to the few who took the trouble of baking, cooking, preparing home-made eatables. The dahi baras, brownies of various shades and types and pizza-muffins were a huge hit!
An enormous thank you to the parents of Syeda Fatima Hussain 3A & Syeda Ayesha Hussain 8D who kindly donated a melamine dinner set in response to a request made by our Principal at the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony.
We raised Rs 81,350 on December 24, 2024, and are planning another mini-sale with slashed prices for our Ancillary Staff in February 2025. The proceeds from both sales will be distributed equally amongst all our ancillary staff before Eid.
And guess what? Everyone was so busy having a great time that nobody remembered to take photographs. Our memories of the December 2024 Nifty Thrifty Sale will have to remain in our minds and hearts.
