Student to Student Climate Change Awareness

On September 07, 2024, four final-year undergraduate students majoring in Social Development and Policy from Habib University (HU), conducted a Climate Change Awareness session as part of a project they are implementing in collaboration with the US Department of State and the HU Student Society for Climate Change Awareness (SSCCA). The session focused on enhancing the understanding of and engagement with climate issues.

Our Year 4 Pupils participated in this session. The session began with pupils completing a survey to assess their prior knowledge.

They were then divided into four groups and engaged in an interactive storytelling activity, featuring Arif, a nine-year-old boy who had witnessed the severe effects of climate change. This original storybook has been created by the SSCCA. Arif’s journey from the flood-affected regions of Sindh to the fragile Sok Valley highlighted the challenges faced by displaced families due to environmental changes.

Following this, they completed a crossword puzzle based on the story’s vocabulary. The first two pupils from each group to finish the puzzle advanced to a quiz competition.

The quiz led to the selection of the following Climate Ambassadors: Hiba Salman and Khirad Binte Rafey from Year 4A, Hadiya Muhammad Abbas and Fatima Azmat from Year 4B, and Lalarukh and Romaisa Salahuddin from Year 4C. These ambassadors together planted a sapling, symbolizing their commitment to environmental action.

This educational experience not only educated our pupils about climate change but also empowered them to take proactive steps towards a sustainable future.
