Faiz Library & Kutub Khana

At the PECHS Girls’ School, we want to make sure that your daughter has an educational environment that will maximize her learning potential. We look forward to helping her become an enthusiastic reader, critical thinker, skilful researcher and an ethical user of information.

The Faiz Library is our main Library located near the entrance. It is used by Years 3 – 10 and by our faculty.

The Kutub Khana is a section of the Faiz Library which has been moved to the first floor to give our young pupils of Years 1 and 2 a more child-friendly library environment, easy library access and to save time going downstairs during their library period.

Procedure & Rules

To encourage and facilitate the reading habit we:

– Have built in a weekly library period in our timetable for Years 1 – 10

– Encourage children to borrow one English book and one Urdu book each week

– Give children access to reference books in the Faiz library, which they can benefit from
during the library period

– Have provided additional books in the classroom library centre for Years 1 – 3

We teach our children to take care of books and return them on time. We need your help in reinforcing this at home. You can do this by:

– Designating one safe, consistent spot in your home for your daughter to keep her library books
until they are returned.

– Ensuring that both books are returned on the due date. She can re-issue a book
from the Faiz Library/Kutub Khana if she hasn’t finished reading it or wants to read it again. She must, however, bring it to school on the due date.

– Making bookmarks with your children for the whole family to use, thereby ensuring books are
not dog-eared. Also, talk to them about respect and care for books and how scribbling, tearing,
or any kind of writing must never be done on books.

– Reminding your child to keep the books safe from any food, liquid, sharp objects and younger siblings.

– Reporting any damage and making sure the book is returned right away so that it can be repaired.

In case your daughter is absent on the day she has her library period:

  • Anyone from the family can come and return the book
  • She herself can come and return it the next day
  • If the book is not returned on the due date, she will pay a fine of Rs. 10/- per book per day
  • Years 1 and 2 will pay the fine to the Kutub Khana Librarian
  • Years 3-10 will pay the fine to the Faiz Library Librarian

In case there is an unexpected holiday on the day your daughter has her library period:

  • The Librarian will collect the library books from her classroom the next day

In case your daughter has lost or damaged a book beyond repair, you will have to:

– Inform the Librarian about the loss or damage. The book fine of Rs. 10 per book per day will continue if the Librarian has not been informed.

  • Replace it with the same book or a new book by the same author or a different author suggested by the Librarian. You will be informed about this through a notice.

The book must be replaced within a week, after which a fine of Rs. 10 per book per day will be charged and your daughter will not be allowed to borrow any more books.

Please encourage your daughter to read regularly and to take care of their Library Books, return them on time and get some more. Also, do remember to enjoy the library books with your children!

Happy Reading ☺
