Academic Counselling

The Academic Counselling Programme comprises of three elements:

1. Study Skills

2. Career Counselling

3. Alumni Internship

Study Skills

Many students experience academic difficulties which result in exam stress and poor grades, because they don’t have the study-skills necessary to organise themselves or to prioritise their needs. Often, they don’t eat or sleep when they really ought to.

Starting in September 2025, Study Skills sessions for Years 8 – 10 will be offered during Flex Fusion slots. Students can sign up and attend.

We aim to teach them study skills and provide them with strategies and tips to manage their time and studies effectively. This includes:

– Guidance in Goal Setting and Exam Preparation

– Effective Reading, Note Taking

– Concentration Techniques and Memory Improvement

– Personalised Study Plans

– Maintaining a Balanced Routine

– Exposure to digital tools for planning

Career Counselling

Choosing a career path can be challenging at such a young age. Many students find it difficult to decide what they will do in the future and some have their ‘passions’ which may change after a while. Career guidance helps them understand their strengths, weaknesses, and interests, leading to more informed and confident decisions about their future.

In Year 8: Students have to make a decision between the Science and Humanities Streams before they get to Year 9. In January each year, when they begin Term 2 and have settled into the flow of Year 8, a workshop will be held for them. This session will be led by our teachers who will help them discover and understand the scope and opportunities in Science, Humanities and Business Studies.

In Year 10: Students need to begin to think about a profession they want to pursue and which subjects would be best for them in college and which college they ought to apply to. A Career Quest is organised for them in the First Term. Holding the session early in the year gives students ample time to explore their options, before the academic pressure of upcoming Board exams increases in the second term.

This session is led by selected professionals from various fields. We invite them each year to come and talk to our students and help them discover and understand the scope and professional opportunities in their chosen subject areas. Prior to the session, a Google Form is shared with students to gather information about their interests and the professionals they wish to hear from.

Alumni Internship

It offers an unpaid /voluntary, hands-on, practical experience to former students to enhance future job prospects. Internships can vary in format and be part-time or full-time. during the academic year ranging in duration from six weeks to three months.
